Welcome to Surface Chemistry at UC Riverside
Francisco Zaera, Research Director
The overall goal of our research is to understand the mechanism of surface reactions at the molecular level. Towards this goal, we use a number of surface-sensitive techniques, including infrared absorption spectroscopy, temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), low-energy ion scattering (LEIS), secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), and low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), together with molecular beams, atmospheric pressure and solid-liquid cells, and catalytic and film deposition reactors. We focus on problems in catalysis and materials science.
Funding for our research is provided by several sources, mainly the the US Department of Energy, the US National Science Foundation, and the ACS Petroleum Research Fund.
